Kenny Grant

Bio

New York City and Connecticut based artist, Kenny Ulysses Grant, not too long ago started honing his skills in abstract painting. Born in Baltimore, Maryland and raised by his single mom. Who was the first person to introduce art to Kenny.

About five years ago Kenny was looking for new art with his wife and came across some exciting pieces. They didn’t get any art that day, but it did spark the fire in Kenny to return to his artistic roots. But unfortunately, he did not back then, but he lost his mom January 6th, 2022, to a Fentanyl overdose. His mom struggled with mental health and substance issues for most of her life. Kenny who has also struggled with substance abuse is now coming up on seven years sober this November 17th. Kenny has strong feelings and emotions on this topic, and he wants to help battle and be an advocate for mental health and substance abuse. To hopefully be some type of positive example of fighting to regain a satisfied sobering life. The loss of his mom the person who shared the gift of art with him sparked Kenny to want to finally get his art out of his system and into existence. Kenny is an action abstract artist, typically using the medium of latex, acrylic paints on canvases.

Along with anything he can get his hands on to get the paint down on to the canvas. Be it a stick, ground pegs or a hammer. Kenny has been a Personal Fitness Coach for the last 20 years, and recently returned to school to become a Physical Education Teacher. Hoping to inspire and positively impact students to become the most satisfying individuals they can be.

Artist Statement

I find complete peace in the CHAOS of my paintings. These artworks are meant for everyone. I also see the controlled steps and placement within the action of my art.  They are love, joy, and passion, celebratory and thoughtful, but they have also allowed me to find solace in the “womb of pain”. Also, some being Expressions of pain themselves.
