Artist Statement

My abstract painted work is grounded in drawing on location, and the expression of sense of place. Using my location drawings as a point of departure, I deconstruct the shapes and employ texture and layering of color to represent the memory that lingers on site.

My current series focuses on abandoned industrial spaces:  bridges in stages of destruction, the brick factories of the Hudson Valley, the steel mills of the rust belt. The drawings document the history; the abstract paintings index the long-forgotten workers and material memories that reverberate through the dilapidated structures, intertwining with the plant life that now reclaims these spaces.
